INCREDIBLE JOURNEY TO THE WEST

WITH REBELLION AGAINST HEAVEN, CROSSING THE MILKY WAY, AND FIGHTING DEMONS AND MONSTERS

In one of our previous articles, we talked about stories, how they can be told in many different ways, and how our experience can be enriched with every new retelling. We enjoyed some original stories retold in different ways. This article introduces a classic Chinese novel, Journey to the West, presented in two different ways.

Journey to the West was written by Wu Cheng’en – a novelist and poet of the Ming dynasty. Journey to the West was well known, and it still enjoys enormous popularity for its comical and adventurous voice with bits of biting satire and formidable characters and plot.

Dylan Guan, age 7, is a great lover and admirer of this classic piece of writing, so he wanted to share it with all his friends and China lovers. But in order to reach as many people as possible, he decided to introduce Journey to the West in two different ways – first, to retell and summarize the story, and then to put it in verse. We were amazed at how Dylan used onomatopoeia, alliteration, and repetition to elevate his writing and make it more interesting, so we proudly shared it with our audience.
