HOW JOHNNY DISCOVERED HIS LUCK

Once, or even twice upon a time, there was a man called Johnny. He was born who knows when and was a very simple man. There were only two things he truly considered his cup of tea: hockey and the lottery. He liked hockey because he was actually a hockey player, a very skilled and most valuable player on his team.

The second thing Johnny was really passionate about was the lottery. He actually started buying the lottery tickets regularly out of pure curiosity. He woke up one day and a strange question was buzzing in his ear: DO YOU THINK YOU’RE LUCKY, JOHNNY? He had to scratch his ear, after which he had to admit that, not knowing the answer to that tricky question can make an individual confused and worried. From where should one start at the beginning of the search to that answer? How many answers are there? What is luck, at all? – was one among many questions to arise…

After a week of thinking about who we can call a lucky person, Johnny suddenly realized: the easiest way to check whether you’re lucky or not is to start playing the lottery! Expecting the prize out of nowhere is the perfect lucky-or-not test! Eureka!

And that’s how Johnny became an obsessive buyer of lottery tickets. The weeks were passing and the wheel of luck didn’t turn in Johnny’s favor not even once! Exactly 85 lottery tickets are stored in the upper drawer of his wardrobe, all with the same message: BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME! (Maybe having time is luck? Or being on time? Or, perhaps, having time to be on time is luck? – he once wondered, waiting to rock the ice on the hockey match) … On the night of the 150th anniversary of The National Lottery, Johnny was invited to make a speech, since he was a successful and several times pronounced MVP. He was so nervous and did not know what important topic to speak about, except hockey and luck. He didn’t want to break those two apart. Therefore, he took a two-minute look at the audience, and finally said: ” I can freely say I was lucky to discover how to play hockey… ’’ The audience was mute, but their applause wasn’t. After the happy clapping, Johnny stopped checking whether he was lucky because it did not matter to him anymore. He had his skating skills and was sure that luck didn’t have anything to do with that!
